A self-described āhealerā and āmentorā has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, after serving magic mushrooms to a woman who died at a health retreat last year.
Rachael Dixon, 53, died after consuming a mushroom tea at a private event at the Soul Barn retreat in Clunes, near Ballarat, in April 2024.
Police investigating her death charged Deanne Mathews, 54, with trafficking a drug of dependence (psilocin).

Psilocin, a chemical that causes hallucinations, is a heavily-restricted poison in Australia and is found in magic mushrooms.
On Wednesday, Ms Mathews faced the Bacchus Marsh Magistratesā Court where she was fined $3,000, but avoided a criminal conviction.
Ms Mathews was accompanied by supporters and sat behind her lawyer on the wooden benches of the cosy, historic courtroom, during the hearing.

Ms Mathewsās lawyer reiterated that no link had been established between the event his client hosted and Ms Dixonās āuntimely passingā.
Previously, police had said an autopsy was unable to determine how Ms Dixon died, and no charges were laid over her death.
Leading Senior Constable Kerrie-Ann Moroney told the court Ms Mathews organised the āhealing ceremonyā on April 13, 2024 which included 10 participants drinking tea with ground up mushrooms.
āThe mushroom is provided to each participant who were aware of what they were consuming,ā she said.
