BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A report from the Boston Police Department has provided more details in the undercover Human Trafficking Unit operation that led to the Saturday arrest of a Fall River police officer.
Mitchell Walsh, 28, was arrested and charged with several counts including enticement of a child under 16, sexual conduct for a fee with a child and possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs (cocaine).
According to Boston police, an undercover officer was contacted Friday at 10:40 p.m. via cell phone.
The call was regarding an undercover website advertisement used “by individuals who are trafficked and by individuals who want to purchase sex from these victims.”
The undercover officer posed as a 15-year-old child in a text conversation with Walsh, which began six weeks earlier, according to Boston police.
Walsh later arrived in a gray Dodge Ram truck and parked at the target location near Monument Street and Walford Way in Charlestown, Mass, according to police.
Police said that Walsh made several Facetime calls with the officer where he stated intentions to bring cocaine, vodka and nips.
Walsh also made reference to having sexual intercourse with the undercover officer in these text exchanges, according to Boston police.
Officers approached Walsh’s truck and identified themselves as law enforcement and placed Walsh under arrest.
According to police, three plastic bags filled with a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine were recovered from the vehicle.
Also recovered were an empty pen containing cocaine, a bottle of Tito’s vodka and a pack of McGillicuddy’s nips.
A call was placed to Walsh’s phone number from the undercover officer’s phone, confirming their online communication.
Walsh’s iPhone was also seized pending the issuance of a search warrant.
Walsh was transported to the Nashua Street jail for booking and the investigation is ongoing.
Massachusetts State Police also contributed to the investigation.
Walsh was on leave for unrelated personnel matters from the Fall Rive Police Department at the time of his arrest, according to a statement from the department.
His employment status is now under review following his arrest.
Fall River Police Department Acting Chief Kelly A. Furtado said in a statement:
The conduct alleged is reprehensible and stands in direct opposition to the values we expect from members of this Department. We take these matters extremely seriously and are fully cooperating with the Boston Police Department. There is no place in law enforcement for anyone who violates the public’s trust.
