COLUMBUS (Ohio) — The deadline for applying to vote by mail in the Nov. 7 Ohio election is Tuesday evening.

Voters will be deciding on local issues, such as city council members and Issue 1, and Issue 2 at the state level. Issue 1 The amendment protects access to abortion and contraception. Issue 2 Would legalize recreational marijuana?

By 8:30 p.m., all ballot applications must reach county boards of election. You can send them by U.S. Mail or drop them off at their 24-hour drop-box.

It is best to fill out the form at this point and drop it off directly in the dropbox.

The secretary of state has prescribed a form that voters can use to request an absentee ballot.Form 11-A).

This is the application portion only.

Ohio has a two step process for absentee voting.

1. Fill out a ballot request form and return it to the BOE
2. You can get the actual ballot by mail

You must return your absentee vote by mail by the postmark date of Nov. 6, and it must reach your county board no later than 4 days after the election.
What is Issue 1?

“The Right to Reproductive Freedom with Health and Safety Protections” would allow everyone to have a legal choice about abortion, contraception and fertility treatment. It would also cover miscarriage care, continuing a pregnancy, and continuing the pregnancy.

What is Issue 2?

The Marijuana Legalization Initiative allows voters to decide if Ohio should legalize pot for adults over 21. If the initiative passes, Ohioans will also be able grow up to six plants. In addition, the proposal would impose an additional 10% tax on each transaction at the point-of-sale.

When can I vote?

Vote in your local elections on these dates:

• Oct. 16-20: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Oct. 23-27: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Oct. 30: 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Oct. 31: 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
• Nov. 1-3: 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Nov. 4: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
• Nov. 5: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Voting is no longer allowed on the Monday before the November 6 election.

Vote in your local polling place on November 7. The polls are open from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm.

Absentee ballots that are not returned via mail must be received by the board of elections before 7:30 pm.

What do I need to be able to vote?

Voters must possess a valid Photo ID, such as a driver’s licence or passport. Prior to this, voters could register to vote using non-photo documents such as bank statements or government checks.
