They’re not the only ones who are speaking out against the new restrictions on products, which many believe were legalized under the 2018 Farm Bill. California isn’t alone in trying to crackdown on an industry that is largely unregulated.

How far is too much?

The need for more clear regulations is widely accepted. California Cannabis Industry Association, for example, said in an official release that it “appreciates” the state’s efforts to safeguard the public health and better address a rapidly evolving cannabinoid industry. The group also acknowledged the new rules will help support youth prevention and address other safety concerns posed by unregulated intoxicating products.

The marijuana trade group did note the need to refine the rules to “ensure continued access to beneficial CBD Products and provide a path for a more balance approach to regulation of cannabinoids, regardless of whether they are sourced from cannabis or hemp.”

The new rules require that hemp products contain “no detectable amounts of total THC.” This standard is stricter than federal definitions of hemp which allow up to 0.3% delta-9 on a dry-weight basis.
