Here are the 3,000+ pages detailing the removal of Cannabis Control Commission Chair Shannon O’Brien

FLASH: 3,000+ pages of secret material in the Shannon O’Brien vs Deb Goldberg case have been released, confirming a sprawling conspiracy to “take out” O’Brien from her position as chair of the Massachusetts CCC.

The documents, which Goldberg and CCC staff fought tooth and nail to keep from the public, have been circulated to the press, and to the court, for review ahead of a final hearing to determine if O’Brien will be reinstated to her position as chair of the Massachusetts CCC, and paid damages, due to the actions of State Treasurer Goldberg (who appointed O’Brien to the position initially).

Per a three page statement released by O’Brien’s lawyers, and a motion for summary judgement to Judge Robert B. Gordon, O’Brien has uncovered extensive evidence of a plot by high-ranking members of CCC staff, and the state treasurer, to “take out” O’Brien with pretextual allegations of misconduct in order to prevent O’Brien (brought on by Goldberg as a “change agent”) from reforming the agency.

O’Brien is seeking reinstatement to her position as chair of the CCC, in the form of a request for Suffolk Superior Court Judge Robert B. Gordon to overrule Goldberg’s decision to fire O’Brien in 2023 following an investigation that O’Brien alleges, and today’s document release affirms, was a pretextual process designed to drive O’Brien out. O’Brien was subject to that campaign, her lawsuit alleges, because O’Brien discovered serious instances of nepotism, corruption and conflicts of interest within the beleaguered regulatory juggernaut (and, in turn, staff used connections with Goldberg and her office to silence O’Brien).

In the shocking documents, which are being released for the first time following a 2023-2024 employment tribunal run by Goldberg in secret, O’Brien details a plot by former CCC Executive Director Shawn Collins (long an ally, and former staffer, of Goldberg), Deputy Treasurer Sarah Kim, former CCC Commissioner Nurys Camargo, discharged CCC Communications Chief Cedric Sinclair and Collins Executive Assistant, Grace O’Day, to centralize control of the agency under Collins.

First, the documents reveal, the conspirators “took out” former CCC Chair Steve Hoffman with similar pretextual allegations of misconduct. Then, when Camargo was not selected for the open position of Chair, an all-out proxy war began to punish O’Brien for being appointed.
