The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians began selling recreational marijuana on Saturday to all adults over 21. This marks a major milestone in North Carolina’s cannabis commerce, where the drug remains illegal.

The Great Smoky Cannabis Company opened its doors to hundreds of eager customers on Sept. 7, located on the tribe’s 57,000-acre Qualla Boundary.
