George Retes, U.S. Citizen and Disabled Veteran, Abducted by ICE During Immigration Raid in Camarillo

CAMARILLO, CALIFORNIA (July 11, 2025) – A 25-year-old veteran and U.S. citizen identified as George Retes was detained and abducted by ICE officials during an immigration raid in Camarillo, California.

Ventura County officials are saying that the incident took place on Thursday. Family members are saying George Retes was trying to leave the area when tensions between protesters and federal agents began to escalate.

His sister Destinee Maja described what happened to reporters. She said that agents broke the window of his vehicle, pepper sprayed him, detained him, and then took him away.

He was mistakenly identified as being part of the protest, though he was not. Family members are now trying to contact anyone that they can to find where George Retes was taken.

The police department, sheriff’s department, and numerous county officials all say that they don’t know where he is. A full investigation remains ongoing. There are a few locations in or near Ventura County where ICE has been known to take people they’ve abducted.
