I can’t tell you this from personal experience as MJ Biz and especially Las Vegas are about as low as you can get on my bucket list of things to do in this life or the next for that matter.
OK… I admit around 20 or 30 years ago i went to Vegas and it was beyond awful the only redeeming factor being spending a night of song with Tony Bennett who seemed to rise above the tack that the venue had bestowed upon him.
He was class but the city was not. I had much more fun at the giant lump of concrete down the road that is the Hoover dam.
As always i digress.
As far as i can gather from comments made to me and odd pieces posted to Linked in and other unsocial media the whole event was in itself a sad facsimile of its earlier let’s run around and throw as much money as we can in any direction, days.
I’m told the after parties were still up to par if you go for that sort of thing but otherwise the event was a series of half thought out presentations which have been heard a thousand times before and a half empty warehouse of bland corporate stalls selling things that nobody wants or can afford these days.
Certain comments i have come across online suggest that this elephant although not yet dead is stuck in the quicksands of inevitable suffocation unless it re-evaluates what it is.
No actual cannabis products allowed on site which i’d understand if the event was being held in Saudi but in 2025 USA , very odd!
But what seems the strangest to me is that more than one set of online comments hinted that the event was full of a new sort of cannabis hustler, the ones that don’t actually like cannabis, go figure?
It goes without saying that MJ Biz have had to weather some “cannabis industry” headwinds this year and general Vegas vists are estimated to be down 10+%,
Then there is, and apologies for bringing up elephants again but there are plenty of them in the room, the current administration in DC.
Those who might have previously spent a lot of dosh flying to the US and shelling out on overpriced hotel rooms have made the not so hard decision to sit things out until the ever suffocating pall of of techno fascism dissapates and I’m guessing that side of things has to get much worse before it gets better.
The name MJ Biz Con has always brought a wry smile. Maybe we’ve arrived at that point.
Here are some of the more polite comments gleaned from Linked in…
Here are my thoughts after spending last week in Vegas.
The decade-long regulated market green rush is officially over.
The drunken sailor spending spree, fueled by investors looking to cash in on legal cannabis, has run its course. The once, shiny object is no longer shiny.

MJBizCon freeloading season has come and gone, again….
Every year thousands of people fly to Las Vegas to take advantage of MJBizCon without supporting MJBizCon in any capacity. It is like refusing to pay taxes while still driving on the roads and using every public service. Benefiting from the ecosystem without contributing to it.

The industry is at critical stage right now as the prohibitionist forces are galvanized and trying to bruise the democratic practice of ballot initiatives in Massachusetts and Maine. NO MORE POINTING FINGERS between the legacy, legal, and hemp markets, if you don’t get on board with the One Plant Alliance led by Steve and Andrew DeAngelo, we may not be enjoying the freedoms that we have enjoyed over the past 10 years.

Even though attendance was lighter this year, the quality of attendees and conversations felt stronger than ever. The insights, energy, and honesty shared throughout the week were a reminder of why this industry continues to push forward despite every headwind.
