The CEOs of Cycling Frog, Cantrip and other marijuana companies have noted that many have already entered the hemp market.

While headlines are abounding pitting hemp companies against marijuana companies, many entrepreneurs prefer a stable regulatory climate in which both can function.

Art Massolo, the CEO of Cycling Frog, and Adam Terry, the CEO of Cantrip, are fighting to keep their right to sell hemp-derived THC products and against state-level restrictions. The two joined forces to fight against state-level bans of their products. recent lawsuit New Jersey was sued after the governor signed legislation banning hemp products that are intoxicating and come from outside of the state.

Cycling Frog was a part of the aforementioned a similar legal action In the Empire State

But neither side wants to be involved in endless legal battles. They’re also hopeful that the animosity between hemp and marijuana interests is beginning to fade, as more traditional marijuana companies are moving into hemp.

One of the latest converts is Tilray Brands, (Nasdaq TLRY)(TSX TLRY), that last month. A new line of hemp-based products has been announced. delta-9 THC beverages. Other major marijuana companies have also launched similar product lines, including Curaleaf, Wana Brands, Cookies Green Thumb Industries

Terry said, “By the end of next year I don’t believe we’ll be talking much about the war between hemp and marijuana because every hemp company will also be a marijuana company.”

Joint efforts

Massolo said that he has been actively lobbying policymakers at the federal and state levels to help them understand that hemp is cannabis with 0.3% delta-9-THC by dry weight, which is the federal definition.

“We are trying to figure out a way to bring the hemp and marijuana industries closer together, because we are the same plant.” Massolo said, “That’s what really bothers me.”

“We sell the exact same molecule whether it is in a dispensary, or whether it is in Total Wines, and more. Unfortunately, we both follow our own rules in order to get there. Are these rules the right ones? Absolute no. Massolo continued, “I think the dispensary is absolutely insane and unnecessary.” “Neither side needs to fight each other. “It’s just laws that have been given to us.”

Massolo and Terry agree that the key to moving forward is to educate policymakers at all levels of government so that future industry rules make more sense. They said that the next federal Farm Bill could be the first step. It is not likely to be approved before next year. The last Farm Bill expired at the end September without Congress having passed a new one.

There is a danger, however. Proposed amendment If adopted, this would prohibit any hemp-based cannabinoids that are intoxicating.

Massolo said that there is a chance that the hemp industry will disappear overnight if some men rubber stamp the bill.

Defined by Demand

Terry, however, predicted that if the landscape remained unchanged the intoxicating hemp industry would continue to boom for one very obvious reasons: consumer demand. He said that the success of the marijuana market and the markets for intoxicating goods has more than proved this.

He argued that under federal law, state legislators will have to adjust their laws to this reality.

They like these products. Terry said that people like the fact that they can buy them at local liquor stores. “We’re going have to figure out a basic infrastructure that will underpin everything.” In the long run, I think these will be sold all over the United States.

It is possible that the path forward will also include more state-level court battles, such as those that are brewing in New Jersey and in California You can also find out more about the following: MissouriIf the status quo is maintained at the federal level, then the law will be followed. Massolo and Terry believe they have a strong legal argument that will prevail in court against state-level bans on intoxicating hemp products.

“In no state have people been able prove that an emergency medical treatment was needed, or that children were dying, or that anything bad was happening. Massolo said that they were just using scare tactics. “I think that’s a winning argument, and I do feel that the federal preemption law is only a small piece of the puzzle.”
