Here at Karma Koala we like to dig into the detail and the points of law and especially so when it comes to discovery about obsfucation and even malfeasance in both the public and the private cannabis sectors around the US.
Last week I became aware of the case that upstate lawyer Dean DiPalato was bringing against the NY OCM on behalf of the “NY Cannabis Farmers Alliance” highlighting the multi-story carpark of issues regarding the OCM’s sometimes inept but mostly actively politically inclined bad management of the state’s cannabis program. We’re all aware of the smoke shop issue, the endless levels of watever is they do in order to issue retail licenses but hidden in the background and I’d suggest because it isn’t a city issue, is the way in which the body has dealt with small farmers who bought licenses on the promise of a robust and honest state cannabis program but all they’ve got so far is passing the buck and pain.
Here’s our story . ALBANY — A lawsuit filed Monday on behalf of the Cannabis Farmers Alliance accuses the state Office of Cannabis Management and Cannabis Control Board of pushing growers with small operations to the brink of financial ruin as their industry faces potential collapse.
Dean also forwarded me information about the work he’s been doing with Jenny’s Baked At Home and her ongoing issues with the OCM.
She made the classic whistleblower mistake, highlighting a few at home truths that should have received a let’s fix it response but instead generated a level of vindictiveness that even as a seasoned watcher of the cannabis sector over the last decade, I find hard to comprehend.
Rather than give you the precis here, just listen to Dean’s thoughts and make sure you read the document in detail, it beggars belief.
I would say enjoy the conversation, but to be honest there’s nothing to enjoy, just the sad realization that behind all the talk of a positive cannabis economy in the state designed to benefit the many it’s another story of the money and the few.
Thankyou Dean .. I look forward to talking again and sooner rather than later
Why is the OCM’s program like a brutalist multi-story capark from the 1970’s?
Planners & Architects who thought this was a good idea for your town
Levels and levels of lost grey bureaucracy
Dark corners where you have no idea what lurks
Trashed old cars who paid to get in but can’t get out
Lifts that went out of service 5 years ago
It’s got concrete cancer destroying it from the inside
Your money spent to do it all
It’s ugly and unimaginative
Solution.. as with all carparks of the age…. dynamite it and start again!
