Local weed business ramps production up, hoping lawmakers have concrete Issue 2, Issue 2 answers soon (19459000)
Local medical marijuana growers will remain in a stalemate until state lawmakers agree to changes to Issue 2.
EASTLAKE (Ohio) — Local medical marijuana farmers are at a standstill unless state lawmakers agree to changes to Issue 2.
We follow the story to its conclusion. You can read and watch our previous reporting about this story below, and see more stories. We’ve done everything we can to make sure that this is done.
Andy Rayburn, the owner of Buckeye Relief and the entire Ohio marijuana sector, knew that a long road lay ahead when Issue 2 was passed on October 7.
Rayburn said, “We knew that the most difficult process to navigate would be to see how the legislator handled the bill, even though it was passed by 57%.”
Rayburn has planned his next moves for when lawmakers open the floodgates. Rayburn has increased production at Buckeye Relief’s Eastlake cultivation and processing facility despite the lack of any timetable. His team is producing the maximum amount of marijuana extract possible.
Rayburn said that the substance is used in products such as vapes, pens and gummies. It has a long shelf life. “We are producing a lot more than we sell, so we can stay ahead of the curve.”
Next Monday, Rayburn will also open his third Amplify Medical dispensary in Bedford. The dispensary’s general manager Sage Graham said that the facility is large enough to accommodate an increased customer base.
“We have an open concept for actually helping the patients. It’s not too crowded because this place will be pretty full when this goes to rec,” said Graham. “So, we made certain to have the space and the people who could help them.”
Rayburn said that if lawmakers can reach a compromise on tax revenue and THC percentages he will be in a position to expand his storefronts. This would bring another 200 jobs to greater Cleveland. He fears that Ohioans will continue to buy weed on the black market if lawmakers do not reach a compromise.
Rayburn said that if taxes are too high, and THC too low, the people won’t buy it. We will barely expand. “We could create a dozen jobs.”
The future is uncertain until an agreement at the statehouse is reached. All plans are paused.
Rayburn said, “We have already designed a double of this building to accommodate another 100 jobs and it is ready to go.” “We’ve already looked at new dispensary sites in the state, and we’re almost ready to go there. But it’s on hold until we have the timetable and details.”
