Nebraska’s Secretary of State said that the state’s campaign to legalize and regulate medicinal cannabis has qualified for the November ballot.

The full story is below the jump.

Last week, officials in Nebraska announced that the campaigns to legalize medical cannabis and regulate it in the state would qualify for the November ballot. Associated Press reports.

Advocates submitted signatures to two ballot initiatives. One was to legalize medical marijuana, and the other to establish a regulated industry for medical cannabis. Both initiatives exceeded 89,000 verified signatures, and met the state law requirement of 5% spread in at least 51 counties. Secretary of State Bob Evnen’s office announced in a Press release.

“After years of hardwork, we are excited that Nebraskans can finally have their voices heard in November on this issue. We have never given up despite the long and hard fight. Today, we celebrate the fact that patients in this state are very soon going to have access medical cannabis treatment.” — Crista Egners, campaign manager for Nebraskans for Marijuana via Associated Press

This is the third medical marijuana. legalization Advocates in the state have made a concerted effort. In 2022, it failed to reach the required number of signatures for the ballot. And in 2020, its ballot language was rejected as the petition addressed two topics at once: regulation and legalization.

This year’s campaign divided the issue into two petitions in order to meet the standards of the court.
