This week in all 5 of my classes, I educated students about the Accountability Gap in available recourse when actors of the federal government violate someone’s constitutional rights. Bad acts by state actors have recourse.

When federal actors do bad things Congress is silent.  We did not focus on the loss of life.

It has been my experience with community college students at the moment that they have already watched all the videos without a framework to process that information. Our job currently in legal education at any level is to provide possible filters. Such as what are the actual laws that pertain to this situation. Those filters provide guardrails to navigate information and garbage overload on social media right now.

For my Cannabis Law course, I sent students on a research trip to find out what legalization has looked like in Minnesota, the impact of hemp legalization changes, and current state of the industry. Just trying to explain the Supremacy Clause and rule of law is fraught. But it must be done and is being done. Pre-Law is booming now fam. Students are not just 19 years old out of high school. Return to law is on the rise as well. Returning students at my college and in the California system are rising.

Teaching any level of law right now in America requires honesty. Teach your children well.
