Full story after the jump.
Edibles are the most popular product among New York cannabis consumers, according to a survey commissioned by cannabis brand Jaunty, which found 40% of respondents said they consumed edible products more than vape products (21.8%) and flower (17%).
The survey also found that price was the leading factor in consumer purchasing decisions, with 28.4% of respondents saying product cost was the biggest influence of what they purchased, followed by product effects (26.9%) and convenience (23%).
In a statement, Jaunty co-founder and CEO Nicolas Guarino called the survey “especially illuminating.”
“It’s clear that most New York consumers want economically priced, approachable options that taste great with predictable effects.” — Guarino in a statement
Respondents were nearly split on whether they understood the differences between concentrate types (distillate, live resin, and live rosin), with 35.2% saying they were confident in their knowledge, 30% saying they have a basic understanding, and 33.8% saying they were unsure of the differences.
Most respondents (43.2%) said they believe cannabis brands are “transparent” about what is in their products and “clearly label ingredients and sourcing,” while 31.4% said labeling is “inconsistent or unclear,” and 13.8% said most brands lack transparency.
Despite the apparent trust in products, a majority of respondents (38.2%) said they assume cannabis products sold in the state are free of harmful additives and contaminants, with 37.6% saying the trusted that products sold in dispensaries are “thoroughly tested,” 13.8% worried about potential contaminants, and 10.4% wary of safety of products in general.
In all, 60% of the respondents identified as frequent cannabis consumers – consuming multiple times per week. The survey was conducted by SurveyMonkey and included 500 adults.
