A Texas man was arrested before he could board a flight to London after 75 pounds of marijuana was found in his luggage at Miami International Airport, authorities said.

Tiernan, who was traveling to London’s Heathrow Airport, had checked two suitcases for his British Airways flight. Authorities inspecting the bags discovered 65 vacuum-sealed packages containing a “green leafy” substances, that was later confirmed to be marijuana, the report said.

Tiernan was stopped by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers while trying to board the flight and acknowledged that the two checked bags belonged to him.

The report did not say whether Tiernan’s suitcases were targeted, but noted that CBP was conducting inspections at Miami International due to a “high trend of narcotics being smuggled outbound from USA.”

In all, Tiernan had 34.01 kilograms, or 74.98 pounds, of marijuana, the report said. CBP initially notified U.S. Homeland Security, which declined the case because the amount of drugs did not meet “the federal threshold,” the report states. They then contacted the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, which became the lead agency for the case.
