An Isle of Wight business owner has demanded police return what he claims is “£300,000” worth of CBD oil seized during a cannabis investigation.

Ashley Oliver, 57, of Gate Lane in Freshwater Bay, attended the IW Magistrates’ Court to apply for an order under the Police (Property) Act.

The application was a formal request to the court to return property that police seized during a criminal investigation.

The court heard that Mr Oliver wants a quantity of CBD oil, a green wax-like substance, and two pots of white powder returned to him.

Mr Oliver told magistrates that police seized around 300 bottles of CBD oil, which he described as a “world-class product that should be sold in Harrods.”

He said the oil was produced by his company, Olives Oil Finest CBD, based in Freshwater, and claimed to possess documents from the government and the Food Standards Agency, confirming permission to manufacture the products.

However, Hampshire and IW Constabulary opposed the application, with the force’s solicitor saying the items were still undergoing laboratory testing.

Police say the products are not currently linked to an active investigation, but testing needs to be completed to ensure no “illegal” products are returned.

The court was reminded that Mr Oliver was sentenced last year after admitting a single count of cultivating 18 cannabis plants.

The application was adjourned for a contested hearing on March 19.

Both parties were ordered to provide evidence to the court by February 10 ahead of the hearing, which is expected to last one hour and 30 minutes
