New reporting by Gordon Russell of the Boston Globe Media digs into the involvements of Shawn Collins with Greatest Hits Cannabis Co.. The article ties him and his current business partner Nicholas Adamopoulos to the wrongful suspension and termination of Chair Shannon O’Brien, as I first reported in Talking Joints Memo last September. It expands upon reporting by both myself and Grant Smith-Ellis.
“The whistle-blower, Matt Dunkum, said in an interview that his former bosses at Greatest Hits routinely mentioned their ties to Collins, with the chief executive boasting of walking his dog with the cannabis regulator and the company’s lawyer telling employees that ‘Shawn,’ who became his business partner soon after leaving the CCC, had their backs.”
“Collins declined an interview, but said by email that he “did not provide any licensee or applicant preferential treatment, access, or protection” during his tenure.”
That statement is curious, and somewhat contradicted by the conclusions of a report by the State Auditor, Diana DiZoglio. From the report of Auditor DiZoglio: “CCC’s mismanagement of prorated fees for license extensions resulted in procedural inequity, revenue loss, and noncompliance with state regulations.”
There were inequities, lost revenues, and uneven compliance on the watch of Collins. Whether he was ever responsible for providing them seems like a fine hair to split.
