A 30-year-old has appeared in court after police allegedly confiscated 44 kilograms of marijuana following a collision with a Kangaroo along the Sturt Highway.

Omar Akech was charged with commercial drug distribution at Griffith Local Court in Griffith on Monday (30th September). Magistrate Pauline Wright refused his bail.

A car had hit a kangaroo on the Sturt Highway about 25 km west from Darlington Point at around 1 pm last Friday (27th September).

After a thorough search, police allegedly found more than 44 kg cannabis leaves in the vehicle’s boot. The officers then arrested Akech and brought him to Griffith Police Station.

Akech is scheduled to appear in Griffith Local Court on Tuesday, October 2.
