General Comments
The Arrest Explorer provides detailed information about the number of arrests, as reported to the FBI UCR Program by law enforcement agencies. The user can choose the offense and the locality, (national, state or local agency), as well as a custom time period or preset time periods. This page represents data from the SRS, and summarized NIBRS.
The UCR arrest data does not reflect the total number or individuals arrested. Instead, it shows the number of arrests reported by law enforcement to the UCR Program.
Locality Selection – National, State, Agency
The first chart shows the rate per 100,000 and the percentage of the population covered for each month in the country. The rate is shown as a trend for 100,000 people and the percent covered. The FBI’s UCR Program calculates the percent of population covered by comparing the data reported by participating law enforcement agencies to the total population of the United States for that particular month.
The Arrest Offense Counts page provides counts of arrest data that has been reported to the FBI UCR Program. The arrest data counts are shown per offense. All arrest data reported for offenses is displayed. Additionally, the arrest counts are displayed in visualizations of crimes against persons, property crimes, and crimes against society. The FBI’s UCR Program also displays additional arrest data, including those for drug, prostitution and gambling offenses.
The charts in the Arrest Offense Counts section show all arrests (without breakdowns), gambling arrests (with breakdowns), drug sales and possession arrests (with breakdowns), and prostitution arrests (with breakdowns). Other charts include arrests for crimes against people, crimes against property and crimes against society.
Also available are demographic data for arrestees as reported by the FBI UCR Program. The information is sorted by age, gender, and race. By selecting a specific crime, the charts will reflect the demographic data specific to that offense.
