he Customs Service’s Incheon International Airport Headquarters announced on the 8th that it arrested A on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and sent him to the prosecution.

A is suspected of smuggling 138 grams of cannabis, hemp jelly, and hemp seeds when he arrived at Incheon International Airport on an aircraft from Chiang Mai, Thailand in August last year.

Customs took A, who tried to pass through the arrival hall without customs declaration, to the inspection table and found cannabis, marijuana jelly, and hemp seeds sealed in a zipper bag along with coffee solution from a beverage container in an in-flight bag.

Customs, which discovered hemp seeds, believed that A is likely to grow cannabis directly in Korea, and raided A’s home in Gunpo, Gyeonggi-do, and seized additional cannabis being grown in an aluminum tent in the room.

Mr. A has been punished for the same crime in the past, but it was investigated that he has been continuously smoking hemp for his work.

Mr. A visited Thailand, where marijuana was legal, and smuggled hemp seeds, and then grew them at home because he felt burdened by the cost of purchasing cannabis, customs said.

An official from the Korea Customs Service said, “The smuggling of marijuana by overseas travelers who have been to countries that legalize marijuana, such as Thailand, is constantly being caught. Even drugs sold legally abroad will be punished as a crime if they are purchased or brought into Korea, and special care should be taken as it is also a crime to grow hemp directly.”

Cannabis is a hemp family plant that causes strong hallucinations and addiction when smoking and taking it. In accordance with the Narcotics Control Act, Korea punishes all acts such as drug cultivation, possession, smoking, trading, import and export.
