Former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) was spotted reviewing a potential contract for a firm related to Trulieve, Florida’s largest medical cannabis company and the second-largest cannabis operator in the country.
Full story after the jump.
Former Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, a staunch supporter of President Trump and one-time nominee for U.S. Attorney General, was photographed on a plane reviewing a lucrative contract for providing services, including āadministration-related guidance,ā to a firm affiliated with the Florida cannabis company Trulieve, The Daily Beast reports.
Itās not clear from the photos ā which a passenger seated behind him captured and then posted on social media ā whether the document Gaetz was reviewing was a formal offer or even a draft proposal that the ex-congressman was working on for himself. The document, however, seemed to contain a $250,000 payout for Gaetz if the issue āresolves,ā although itās unclear what the āMATTERā refers to. Additionally, the document appeared to include a $2,000,000 āadditional āSuper Success Fee,’ā the report said.

The document references Trulieve by name, but it is misspelled āTruleive.ā Trulieve is the largest medical cannabis company in Florida and has spent about $164 million on legalization efforts in the state, so far unsuccessfully.
While Gaetz was reportedly unpopular in Congress, he still holds favor with President Trump, who, after winning the presidency, nominated him to be Attorney General. But Gaetz, who resigned from the House immediately after receiving the nomination, withdrew his name from consideration amid significant pushback from even those within the Republican party.
Representatives for neither Trulieve nor Gaetz have commented publicly on the story, although Gaetz confirmed the photographs on X, writing that, āApparently someone sitting behind me on a flight recorded me without my knowledge.ā
