Grants support high-impact projects in the psychedelic plant medicine space

Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines is thrilled to announce it has received a $150,000 grant from Kindred Trust, a new grantmaking initiative supporting high-impact projects and collaboration opportunities in the plant medicine space.

Kindred Trust’s mission is to contribute to the broad integration of wisdom into society by catalyzing “high-impact sacred medicine initiatives in collaboration with aligned partners” through philanthropic efforts centering reciprocity and collaboration. The Trust specifically funds mission-aligned plant medicine initiatives with the potential for great impact, but which are currently under-supported.

The grant will help Chacruna continue in its mission to produce research on plant medicines and psychedelics, propagate academic knowledge in accessible formats, create cultural understanding and legitimacy for plant medicines, bridge the world of plant medicines and the emergent field of psychedelic science.

$100,000 will go to the Indigenous Reciprocity Initiative of the Americas (IRI), a grassroots network of Indigenous community organizations fighting for land, water, food, medicine, and culture. The remaining $50,000 will support Chacruna’s programming, including upcoming courses, like Roots of Psychedelic Therapy: Shamanism, Ritual and Traditional Uses of Sacred Plants (starting July 8) and the Studies in Psychedelic Justice series.

Kindred Trust, which is sponsored by Agape Ventures and managed by Circadian Lab, emerged as a result of the Psychedelic Listening Project, published in 2024. Through research and interviews across the psychedelic space, the Project sought to capture comprehensive data and compelling insights to support the creation of a more equitable future for the psychedelic ecosystem.

This generous grant arrives at a pivotal time for Chacruna, as the psychedelic movement continues to evolve rapidly and risks repeating historical patterns of exclusion, extraction, and commodification. Chacruna’s work stands apart for its commitment to equity, cultural and political reflection, and justice, centering Indigenous voices, advancing ethical frameworks, and fostering cross-cultural dialogue rooted in respect and reciprocity. Chacruna’s educational programs, publications, and public events are designed to shift paradigms and empower a new generation of leaders in the psychedelic field who value inclusion and integrity alongside innovation.
