A 58-year-old Vacaville resident has been sentenced to 29 months in prison for manufacturing DMT, a strong psychedelic drug, in a home lab and possessing a firearm while a felon.
Robert Charles Crist pleaded guilty to the charges last December and was sentenced on Friday in Judge Dina Coggins’ courtroom. Crist was indicted in November 2022.
DMT is a Schedule One drug (meaning it has no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse), that is pressed from plants in the Rutaceae family.
“Crist traveled to Hawaii to obtain plant materials for manufacturing DMT, which he mailed back to California,” a release from the Department of Justice reads.”From the plant materials, Crist extracted DMT liquid, which he then converted into a smokable crystalline form for distribution.”
Crist holds five prior felony convictions, according to the release. The investigation was conducted by the DEA, ATF, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Solano County Sheriff’s Department.
“This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone,” the release reads. “On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.”
