PRESS RELEASE
BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.-(Business WIRE)-Today, Green Check (GC), a leading fintech provider in the cannabis industry, has announced a new feature allowing licensed cannabis-related businesses to access banking services.
This update addresses a critical gap in the financial services available to the growing number CRBs on Indigenous Lands, which has increased by Nearly 25 percent Since January 2023. In the past, financial institutions have been unable to serve businesses licensed by sovereign countries because of state-issued licensing requirements.
CRBs with tribal licensing can now seamlessly onboard onto the Green Check Platform, expanding access to banking services for CRBs in sovereign lands. Future updates will include comprehensive regulatory requirements, streamlining the onboarding procedure, and simplifying access for these businesses to essential financial services.
Stacy Litke is the VP of Banking Programs for Green Check. She said, “While this is only the beginning of our efforts in enhancing banking services for CRBs that have sovereign nation licenses we view it as positive step in the right directions.” This new feature marks an important step towards inclusivity and pushes Green Check toward its goal of democratizing financial services and business for the cannabis industry as a whole.
Green Check has enlisted the expertise and support of the Indigenous Cannabis Industry Association to help with this expansion. The ICIA’s mission is to empower Indigenous communities and create opportunities for them through policy, programs and outreach.
Mary Jane Oatman is the executive director of ICIA. She said, “ICIA has been honored to work with Green Check in order to transform banking solutions that are aligned with tribal governance and not state regulations.” In a world where financial institutions face unique regulatory challenges it is important to offer tailored support that respects tribal sovereignty. We are not just facilitating the growth tribal programs, we also navigate this complex and often uncharted regulatory landscape.
“Green Check is paving a way for sustainable financial development for all communities,” said Jay Wright. He is the product marketing manager of Little Beach Harvest, an Shinnecock Nation marijuana dispensary in Southampton Long Island. “With this expansion Native Vision meets banking experience.”
