McALLEN, Texas — A 58-year old man was sentenced for importing cocaine into the United States, according to U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

Fidel Aguirre Montalvo pleaded guilty on June 6, 2023.

Aguirre will now serve 46 months of federal prison, immediately followed by a three-year period of supervised release.

Aguirre arrived from Mexico in a vehicle on April 25. The authorities then referred Aguirre for a secondary inspection, where they found 24 bundles hidden in the vehicle’s floor. Aguirre confessed to trying to bring narcotics in the country for an undisclosed sum of money.

The cocaine weighed about 25 kilograms.

Aguirre remains in custody pending his transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons prison to be determined soon.

Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection carried out the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. attorney Cahal P. McCollgan.
