Customs announced Saturday that they had discovered a dangerous drug case at Hong Kong International Airport. They seized approximately 14 kg of suspected cannabis buds with an estimated value of around HK$3.8million.
Customs conducted a risk assessment on Friday to inspect a consignment of air cargo that was declared to be carrying vegetables and fruit and arrived in Hong Kong from Thailand.
On inspection, two carton boxes of goods contained dried seafood, mixed with the suspected cannabis buds.
A male consignee aged 58, suspected of being involved in the case, has been arrested.
After a thorough investigation on Friday, September 27, Customs officers conducted a controlled-delivery operation in Kowloon City, and arrested a woman aged 43, suspected of being involved with the case.
The investigation continues, and it is possible that more arrests will be made.
Customs reminds citizens to be vigilant and refrain from taking part in drug trafficking for monetary gain. Individuals should not accept jobs or instructions to transport controlled items in and out of Hong Kong.
