Only March 2024 has seen higher sales.

Marijuana sales in Colorado, while still in a slight slump, rebounded in July to reach the second highest monthly total of the calendar year. With $122.5 millionThe peak for March was $126.6 million.

According to state Department of Revenue records, the cannabis market in the state remains depressed. July sales were lower than any other month for that period since 2016.

The DOR reported that the $122.5 million includes $108.9 millions in recreational sales as well as $13.6 million of medical sales.

The sales were up from $113 in June and $53 in May, which were near the bottom of Colorado’s legal marijuana market. The state’s industry reached its lowest point in November of last year when it sold only $110 million worth of legal marijuana. This was the lowest point since 2017.

The DOR reported that the total Colorado cannabis sales since the adult-use marijuana market launched in 2014 are now $16.3 billion. This includes $826 million so far in 2024.

The recent sales decline can be attributed to several factors including increased competition in neighboring states such as New Mexico and an artificial sales boost during the COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020 and 2021 when many U.S. citizens quarantined themselves at home and consumed a lot of cannabis.

In recent years, the state has also seen a contraction of its market as companies waited for the market to stabilize.
