A California doctor entered into a plea agreement with federal prosecutors on Wednesday over the fatal overdose last year of “Friends'” star Matthew Perry.
Mark Chavez, 54 years old, appeared in front of U.S. District Court Judge Sherilyn Garnett at a Los Angeles court to plead guilty to conspiring to supply ketamine to Perry. Chavez, even with a plea agreement, faces up to ten years in prison at his sentencing on April 2.
Chavez has already renounced his passport and agreed not to practice medicine. He will remain on bond.
According to a 18-count indictment, filed in August. Chavez is one five individuals charged with Perry’s accidental drug overdose. The star actor was discovered dead in his hot tub in Los Angeles in October 2023.
Chavez, a former ketamine clinic owner, sold ketamine lozenges, which he then gave to Dr. Salvador Plasencia (42), who distributed them to Perry. Plasencia is a Santa Monica-based doctor known as “Dr. P” has pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to distribute Ketamine.
In a series texts, Plasencia & Chavez discussed how much to charge Perry. Investigators say they wrote: “I wonder how many this moron will be willing to pay” and “Lets see what we can find out.”
