The lottery for the cultivation and processing permits will be held on October 28.

Kentucky has announced its winner of the Kentucky First medical marijuana business licenseKCA Labs is located in Nicholasville, a small town just south of Lexington.

Gov. Andy Beshear said that KCA Labs tests hemp and other natural products. Andy Beshear told WLKY that he said this during a press event.

“I am thrilled that the first license will go to an organization that can help us do this safely. “Our Office of Medical Cannabis established strict regulations and a safety compliance center like KCA will ensure that all Kentucky cannabis is held up to the highest medical standard,” Beshear stated.

Thompson said that “KCA’s vast experience in testing hemp products and knowledge of the industry will translate nicely into Kentucky’s medical cannabis program.”

WLKY reports that because the state does not have a cap on the number testing labs it will allow, this category doesn’t need to wait until a lottery is conducted. The lottery for cultivators, processors and dispensaries is scheduled for October 28. No date has been set for the lottery for dispensaries but officials expect it to take place in November.

The Caledonian Record reported that 5,000 businesses applied for different marijuana business permits. But Kentucky will Only give out A total of 48 dispensary licenses, 10 processor licences and 16 cultivation licenses.

In January, officials hope to launch sales.
