Maryland collected nearly $22.4 millions in cannabis taxes during 2024’s second quarter, a 52% rise from the previous quarter.

Maryland collected $22.4 million in cannabis tax from April to June – a 52% rise over the previous quarter, according to state data.

The majority of the funds, approximately $11.2 million, was sent to Maryland’s General Fund in accordance with state law. About $7.8 millions were directed to the Community Reinvestment and Repair Fund.

The majority of the state Cannabis taxes More than $11.3 million of this total came from sales in the Central Region of the State. According to the Comptroller’s Office, Western region sales resulted in about $3.8million in taxes collected, while Capital region’s sales brought in about $3.2million. The Eastern region (about $3.2million) and Southern region (873,597) followed.

The post states that “despite local responsibilities to manage zoning, safety and health impacts associated with cannabis businesses, local government receives a mere 45c for every $100 of cannabis sales.” Other states, such as New York and Oregon offer counties a fair share through sales or excise taxes, but Maryland’s counties remain financially stressed while they manage these growing responsibilities.
