New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte vetoed new rules that would have let medical cannabis licensees operate an off-site greenhouse cultivation site.

Full story after the jump.

New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte (R)Ā last week vetoed legislation that would have allowed medical cannabisĀ businessesĀ in the state toĀ operateĀ a greenhouse cultivation location.Ā According to theĀ bill text, allowing businesses toĀ operateĀ a greenhouse at a different location than its current cultivation location would have helped the businesses ā€œreduce energy costs and provide lower prices for registered qualifying patients.ā€

ā€œI do not support expanding the cultivation of marijuana in our state. For this reason, I have vetoed SB 468.ā€ — Ayotte, in her veto message

The legislation was a bipartisan effortĀ that would have allowed dispensaries toĀ operateĀ a greenhouse directly, instead of relying on indoor cultivation agreements.Ā Currently, there are only seven dispensaries in the stateĀ operatedĀ by one of four ā€œalternative treatment centers.ā€

Lawmakers could still override the governor’s veto with a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate.

Ayotte opposes any expansion of the medical cannabis program in addition to adult-use legalization. In August,Ā the governor told reporters that when it comes to medical cannabis and recent federal changes she would ā€œhave to comply with federal lawā€ but added that the stateĀ ā€œshould not legalize marijuana in the future.ā€
