The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission changed up its marijuana testing standards to require much more specific testing and results from licensed cannabis companies.

The new guidelines, announced at a recent meeting, include smaller testing sample sizes, more specific results for various product categories and expanded testing for more cannabinoids. according to ROI-NJ.

The commission shrank the acceptable testing batch size from 100 pounds to just over 33 pounds, and assessed varying maximum lot sizes for different product categories, including ā€œconcentrates, vaporized formulations, ingestible, transmucosal and dermal cannabis-infused products,ā€ ROI-NJ reported. Cannabis testing labs have until March 19 to implement the batch size changes.

The CRC also adopted testing rules for contaminants such as foreign matter, pesticides, microbes, mycotoxins and heavy metals, and must use consistently the same testing methodologies. Labs have until May 23 to implement the protocol changes.

In addition to testing for both THC and CBD levels, the CRC chose to mandate that testing also now encompass levels of THCA, CBDA, CBG, CBGA and CBN.

ā€œThe new guidelines are the result of rigorous research and collaboration with industry experts and regulatory bodies,ā€ CRC Acting Executive Director Christopher Riggs said, adding that the new rules are aimed at consumer protection.
