The Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is launching a Local Emphasis program to investigate and identify workplace hazards in Colorado’s cannabis industry.

According to a report, the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is launching a program to identify workplace hazards in Colorado’s cannabis industry. Safety and Health Magazine report.
OSHA’s Local Focus Program for Cannabis Industries Will investigate facilities in the Denver region involved with the manufacturing and cultivation of hemp and cannabis products.
OSHA states that “Cannabis industry workers are exposed to a wide range of safety and health risks.” “Activities like extraction and production of concentrated products involve the use flammable liquids, which have caused serious injuries to workers from burns and explosives. Electrical issues, exposure to dangerous chemicals, and unguarded machines are also common hazards.
The program will see OSHA’s Englewood, Denver, and other offices inspect and review local marijuana facilities, evaluating their working conditions, records and health and safety programs. OSHA will also offer educational newsletters and hold training sessions for stakeholders.
The Regional Emphasis program is designed to encourage employers to take action to reduce hazards, to ensure that facilities are evaluated in order to determine whether they are complying with OSHA requirements and to assist them to correct hazards. This will help to reduce potential injuries, illnesses and deaths for their workers.
