According to a new study, Americans could save up to $29 billion in healthcare costs per year if they had access to legal medical marijuana in all 50 states of the U.S.

According to a recent Leafwell report published in the journal Applied Health Economics and Health Policy, the federal legalization medical cannabis could save up to $29 billion annually for the United States healthcare system.
Employers in states with medical marijuana programs had 3.4% lower premiums for individual coverage plans than employers in states that do not have legal access to cannabis. Medical cannabis. The study estimates that employers in states where medical cannabis is legalized have saved an average of $238 per person per year on insurance premiums, and $348 for each employee plus one insurance package per year.

Leafwell estimated that employers would have saved $14.9 billion if all fifty states had implemented comprehensive reforms for medical cannabis. Single coverage plans Employee-plus-one plans cost $8 billion. Employees would have saved $4.2 billion annually for single coverage plans, and $2.3 billion annually for employee-plus-1 plans.
Legal cannabis programs in all fifty states would have contributed to a 0.65% decrease in U.S. healthcare costs, which will total $4.5 trillion by 2022. This is equivalent to a potential savings of $29 billion.
