Author Catherine Hayes talks with BBC broadcaster Jonathan Wingate about the brand new revised edition behind the BBC Sounds award-winning podcast Acid Dream.

Catherine and Jonathan have a wide-ranging discussion about the conspiracy to flood world with LSD. The 1960s and 1970s brought about a cultural shift which has had a lasting impact on our culture. The Beatles, The Stones and Jimi Hendrix were just a few people who had their values and visions influenced by LSD. Steve Jobs, Richard Branson Frances Crick Alan Ginsberg The Beat poets are also among the millions. Christine Bott, Richard Kemp and others were involved in the production of LSD between 1969 and 1977. Christine Bott, who met Catherine in 1995 at the University of east Anglia, trusted her with her story. This story became widely known through the police project ‘Operation Julie.’ 800 police officers took part in the largest operation to stop the worldwide distribution of 100% pure LSD. Christine grew in East Anglia, and her story took her all over the globe. It ended tragically in Norwich where she died in 2007 at Priscilla Bacon Lodge. Catherine was with her when she died, and took her dying friend’s wish to tell her story to heart. Christine felt it was important to take extreme measures to alert people to the climate crisis that she and millions of other people could see unfolding during the 1960s and 1970s. Christine met Richard Kemp, the key chemist, while studying medicine at Liverpool University. Richard was recruited by the Brotherhood of Eternal Love in order to manufacture LSD. Christine believed that it was important to awaken people to the interconnectedness between all things, and LSD was a way to do this. Based in a tiny Welsh cottage, their LSD supplied 85% of the global supply. In 1978, Christine was sentenced to prison in the most secure unit in the country for the 36 most dangerous females. Why did the authorities feel it necessary to impose a harsh punishment on Christine? Christine has kindly shared her account of what she called a “caper” before, during and after. Join Catherine and Jonathan to explore these issues that are still relevant today.
