Stam, a former Wigan Athletic player, has been described as a “major actor in the drug world” by a prosecution following his June arrest on suspicion of drug related offences. Stam is facing trial for trafficking 2,217 kilograms cocaine. He is also being investigated for alleged money-laundering.
According to The Sun, Dutch police have detained Stam’s parents, brother and girlfriend since his arrest.
During the raid, the police discovered EUR100,000. (approx Rs92 lakhs) in cash, and decoded messages relating to the drug operation. As part of an investigation, police raided six houses and a campervan in June. They seized money, three properties including a yacht, 3 cars, 6 luxury watches, and jewellery.
A judge denied Stam’s bail request because he was concerned that he would flee to Dubai to join his brother. Stam was not present at a recent court appearance.
