CLEVELAND – Corinne Kelly, a Cleveland resident, says that a new shop is opening on Denison Avenue offering the legal limit for hemp-derived products such as Delta 8 THC.

It’s a derivative from hemp, similar to marijuana but not as potent.

“We have great products and I always believe there will be a market to buy good quality products,” said Happy Place Premium Smoke Shop Coowner Corinne Kelly.

Kelly tells News 5’s Remi Murrey that she and her coowner Evin Peavy, opened Happy Place Premium Smoke Shop a few days before Issue 2 was passed to legalize recreational marijuana.

“We can’t keep up with the big boys who have tons of space and hundreds of different products. Kelly said, “That’s not what I want to do.”

Kelly’s goal is to provide their customers with a quality supply from brands and distributors who have been vetted by the industry.

Kelly and Evin peavy say that they place QR codes on each of their products so customers can know what is inside.

“When you scan this code, it takes you directly to the product website.” It shows the product we have, the potency and the breakdown of THC in it,” said Happy Place Premium Smoke Shop co-owner Evin peavy.

In the past News 5 spoke to legal experts Tom Haren, a partner at Frantz Ward, talks about Delta 8 THC made from hemp.

We learned that it has similar psychoactive properties as marijuana because it comes from the same plant.

Hemp has less than.3% Delta-9 THC, while marijuana has higher levels.

“My joke is: What some call loopholes I call compliant business,” said Haren. “Because the rule is followed, it’s not an loophole.”

We reached out to Haren Thursday and he responded that Delta 8 products do not have the same restrictions on where they can be purchased as marijuana.

Kelly tells News 5 that she is optimistic about the impact of legalizing marijuana on her shop.

She expects that the changing regulations, as well as the growing interest of consumers and competition, will pose challenges.

“I think that it will help us in the end.” Kelly said, “I think it will be a little rocky at first.”
